Leadership & Personal Development Training

As part of AEOCB’s leadership and personal development capacity-building program, training sessions were organized for university students and teachers to strengthen personal, interpersonal, professional, and teaching skills.

June 19, 2026

University of Lake Tanganyika

Theme: The Six Thinking Hats

This training strengthened students’ ability to analyze situations, make decisions, and solve problems in a structured manner. Students participated in group work and simulations to apply the approach in leadership situations.

June 26, 2026

University of Lake Tanganyika

72 student representatives received certificates of participation.

Theme: Conflict Management

Participants took part in practical exercises, case studies, and exchanges of experience to develop their understanding of conflict prevention, management, and peaceful resolution.

June 27, 2026

Lumière University of Bujumbura

Theme: The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Target audience: Master’s students. Based on Stephen R. Covey’s book, the facilitator showed how sustained effectiveness is built on character, principles, and good habits.

June 30; July 2, 3 & 7, 2026

Pan-African University Les Mages

115 students from all disciplines participated in the training.

Theme: Proactivity, Time Management & SMART Goals

Target audience: Students from all disciplines. The discussions helped participants reflect on applying these concepts to their academic paths, future careers, and civic engagement.

July 4, 2026

University of the Great Lakes

Theme: The Qualities and Habits of a Good Leader

Target audience: Student representatives. The session focused on habits that help team leaders improve their leadership and effectiveness. Participants demonstrated strong engagement and willingness to apply the lessons learned.

Teacher Training

Notre Dame de l'Annonciation School – Kinanira

A teacher training session was organized to improve the quality of teaching. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs was used to help teachers understand that students learn best when their basic needs are met.

Main topics included:

  • Qualities and responsibilities of an effective teacher
  • Characteristics of an engaged and motivated student
  • Multiple intelligences and their impact on learning
  • Adapting teaching methods to students’ needs
  • Creating an inclusive and motivating learning environment
  • Emotional blocks and their impact on learning
  • Strategies for trust, motivation, and encouragement

Teachers actively participated and recognized the importance of diversifying teaching approaches to meet different learning styles.

General Conclusion

The training sessions strengthened the skills of students and teachers in leadership, personal development, and teaching practices. Participants expressed satisfaction and a desire to apply the acquired knowledge in their respective contexts. The sessions also generated strong participation and interest, supporting continuation of the program in other higher education institutions.

Challenges Encountered

  • Coordinating academic calendars to allow the participation of the greatest number of students.
  • Misunderstanding or reluctance from some university administrators to open their doors.
  • Delays in the scheduled start times of training sessions.
