Bridge Construction
Rweza Community Bridge Construction
Connecting the people of Rweza to schools, healthcare, markets, and nearby communities through a safer and more reliable bridge.
Connecting the people of Rweza to schools, healthcare, markets, and nearby communities through a safer and more reliable bridge.
The people of Rweza were regularly isolated during the rainy season and faced serious difficulty reaching schools, healthcare facilities, markets, and the main road.
Following a formal request from the Zone Chief, AEOCB funded the materials and transportation required to build a new bridge. The local community contributed the labour.
AEOCB purchased thick, high-quality timber planks and the necessary nails, and paid for transport to the site despite the national fuel shortage.
The community, mobilized by the Zone Chief, provided the labour required for construction. This active participation strengthened local ownership and demonstrated how urgently residents needed the bridge.
Heavy rainfall and fuel shortages caused logistical difficulties, but the project was successfully completed.
AEOCB recommends that local authorities and community leaders regularly inspect and maintain the bridge to ensure its long-term safety and durability.
AEOCB remains committed to supporting local initiatives that improve access, safety, and community development across Burundi.
